What lessons does Hilary Erickson draw from historical religious figures like Joseph?

From what I’ve shared on my site, I draw a few key lessons:

• From Joseph in the Nativity, I really connect with being in the “supporting role.” I imagine his doubts and questions, but also his quiet faith. That helps me value the roles where I’m not the “main character,” and trust what I already know is right even when things feel confusing.

• More broadly, I look at religious leaders (like Joseph, or modern prophets I’ve written about) as examples of charity, endurance, and trust in God rather than people to worship. Their lives remind me that unseen support, steady goodness, and long‑suffering love really matter.
