Answer
I weave my faith in pretty naturally, but I also try to keep it very focused on principles rather than perfection or pressure.
From what I share on Pulling Curls, you can see that I built a lot of my family philosophy on The Family: A Proclamation to the World. That shows up in how I:
- Prioritize being home as much as we can reasonably afford, even if that means fewer “extras”
- Treat family as God’s way of showing love, so I try to parent with unconditional love and lots of do-overs
- See myself as part of a long line of mothers, drawing strength from ancestors and temple covenants
- Use principles like faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, and work as our “filter” when we’re stuck on a parenting or marriage decision
I’m also clear that families come in all shapes and sizes and that an adult’s unconditional love for a child is a blessing in whatever form it comes.
Would you like ideas on how to apply some of those same principles in your own home, even if your beliefs are different from mine?
