Answer
Hi, I’m Hilary Erickson from The Pregnancy Nurse and Pulling Curls.
A few of my favorite techniques, pulled from the podcast episodes you’re seeing, are:
- Plan, but stay flexible: Have a clear plan so kids know what to expect (where you’re going, hotel, breakfast, pool, etc.), but assume things will change and roll with it.
- Set expectations beforehand: Family meeting before trips—talk about travel time, lines, possible hard parts, and the attitude you expect (bathroom rules included!).
- Focus on the real goal: Not “every ride” or a perfect itinerary, but time together and making memories, even when things go wrong or it rains.
- Prepare for comfort: Check weather, pack layers, rain gear, snacks, and anything that keeps everyone from being cold, hungry, or miserable.
- Include kids’ priorities: Ask older kids what makes a vacation fun for them—rides, pool time, downtime—and try to fit in a bit of everyone’s “must-do.”
If you tell me your kids’ ages and where you’re thinking of going, I can help you turn these into a simple trip plan.
