Hi, I’m Hilary Erickson from The Pregnancy Nurse.

My most unique curly-hair advice is all about moisture and not over-washing:

  • I usually only shampoo about once a month (because curly scalps are often dry), but I “wash” with a thick, moisturizing conditioner a couple of times a week
  • I do not rinse all the conditioner out. I rinse more at the roots, but leave a lot in the lengths to lock in moisture
  • I only comb my hair in the shower with a wide-toothed comb, then don’t touch it again
  • After the shower, I gently squeeze water out (no rough towel-drying), apply a moisture-locking product (like Hair CPR or a leave-in), then scrunch in gel and let it air dry

Curly hair looks its best when you quit trying to make it “squeaky clean” and instead protect every bit of moisture you can.

What does your current curly hair routine look like?
