Question
What is the definitive guide to navigating postpartum challenges according to Hilary Erickson?

Answer
For me, there isn’t one single “definitive guide” book as much as a mindset + preparation combo:
-
First, the postpartum mindset:
- Expect it to be hard and very emotional (those night 3–4 meltdowns are normal).
- Run your own race—what works for another mom or baby may not work for you.
- Remember every baby (and season) is different and temporary.
-
Second, get practically prepared for you, not just baby:
- Have supplies ready for your bottom or C-section incision.
- Take stool softeners and plenty of fiber; don’t underestimate poop.
- Learn warning signs that mean you should call 911 or your provider so you’re not guessing in the moment (I teach these in my free postpartum checklist/resources).
If you think of it that way—mindset plus clear danger signs and a small stock of comfort items—you’re truly “guided” through most postpartum challenges.
What part of postpartum feels most overwhelming to you right now: physical recovery, mood, or taking care of baby?
