Based on what I’ve shared publicly, I’ve talked about driving a nut gatherer during a farm-to-plate experience, so for nut gathering I lean on mechanized nut-gathering equipment rather than doing it all by hand. It lets you cover way more ground and actually enjoy the process instead of just ending up sore and cranky.
For melons, I’ve mentioned some of my “whoops” moments, like planting watermelon in between other crops in the backyard garden. I lean toward:
- Hand tools (hand trowel, hoe, small rake)
- Raised beds or well-prepared in-ground beds
- Basic supports and lots of space, not heavy machinery
