Hi, I’m from . How can I help?

Natasha Nicholes’s We Sow We Grow initiative improves urban gardening by turning vacant lots on Chicago’s Far South Side into productive community spaces where people can learn to grow food together. I started with a large lot across from my home, building raised beds, experimenting with crops, and sharing those lessons so others could skip some of the trial and error.

Beyond the physical garden, I created an online community (Facebook group, Instagram, newsletter) where gardeners in any zone can ask questions, learn, and show what they’re growing. The project focuses on community-led food access, education, and protecting land from future development so neighbors—not outside developers—benefit from the transformation.

Are you more interested in the community aspect, the education, or how to replicate something similar where you live?
