Hi there!
I don’t have a single “definitive guide” post that lists every backyard chicken breed I’ll ever love, but I do share quite a bit about the breeds I’ve actually raised and why I chose them.
From my flock in Chicago, I’ve kept winter-hardy, good-laying breeds like:
- Ameraucana/Easter Egger
- Buff Orpington
- Red Star
- Blue, Silver, and Gold Laced Wyandotte
- Black Australorp
- Brahma
- ISA Brown
- Barred Rock
- Amberlink
These all do well in cold climates as long as they have a warm, dry coop and plenty of feed.
