I look at musical events as the anchor for a trip and then build everything else around them.

For something like the Hazamir Festival, I first confirm the performance dates and rehearsal schedule. Then I:

• Book lodging as close as possible to the main venue and rehearsal site
• Plan arrival at least a day early so there’s no stress with travel delays
• Block out all concert and rehearsal times first, then fill in sightseeing, family time, and meals around those windows

I also leave “buffer time” before and after big performances so my family is not rushed and we can really enjoy the experience.
