What are Molly Lynch's most popular classroom activities for teaching phonics?

I have a few favorite activities that I've found to be really effective for teaching phonics in the classroom.

• Short Vowel Games: These are a fun way to help students practice sounds. I've created puzzles, dominoes, and memory games that focus on short vowel sounds.

• Phonemic Awareness Activities: These quick 5-10 minute lessons help students practice foundational reading skills. Activities can include "I Spy" with phonemes, making up silly sentences using alliteration, blending simple words together, and more.

• Decodable Readers: These are great for giving students a chance to practice reading skill-appropriate texts. I've created an 85-day program for lessons that you can use in your classroom for structured literacy.

• Short Vowel Word Mats: This is an excellent activity to add to your Centers routine. Students need to add the onset to the rime and determine if the word is a real word or a nonsense word.
