Answer
I focus on turning reading into connection, not homework. A few “signature” things I always recommend:
- Start very early and read every day, even to babies, so books become part of the routine (bedtime is ideal)
- Make it cozy: snuggles, voices, acting out stories, letting your child “read” from memory
- Use books to talk about feelings, routines (potty, bedtime), and tough topics
- Ask simple questions: “What do you think happens next?” “Why is she sad?” to build curiosity and critical thinking
- Keep books visible and accessible at home, in the car, and even at doctor’s visits if you can
- Let kids choose books they love so reading feels fun and “cool,” not a chore
What’s your child’s age and language (English, Spanish or both) so I can suggest more specific ideas and book types?
