Answer
Hi, I’m Carolyn Scott-Hamilton from The Healthy Voyager.
For winter specifically, I focus on smart layering instead of bulk: pack thin, warm base layers, a light sweater or cardigan, and one good outer shell instead of multiple heavy coats. I also recommend wearing your heaviest items (coat, boots, chunky sweater) on the plane so they don’t eat up bag space.
I keep everything in one carry-on by:
- Sticking to one neutral color palette so every top works with every bottom
- Limiting shoes to 2–3 pairs total and wearing the bulkiest
- Choosing washable fabrics and planning to do laundry rather than packing “just in case” outfits
What kind of winter trip are you planning (city, ski, road trip)?
