I focus on two big areas: recording technique and minimal processing.

For recording, I’m big on:

  • Proper mic placement and talking off-axis to reduce plosives (P-pops)
  • Using a pop filter correctly
  • Moving closer for intimacy, backing off for shouty or “big” reads so you don’t distort
  • Making sure your space is treated so you’re not fighting room noise

On the processing side, I warn against “Photoshopping” your sound with heavy EQ and compression. Producers usually want audio flat. Light normalization and, if needed, a gentle high‑pass filter are fine, but anything that obviously changes your tone can hurt you.

What does your current recording chain and space look like?
