Question
What developmental milestones does Kayla O'Neill focus on for toddlers?
Answer
As a developmental therapist, I focus on five main areas of child development. These include:
-
Cognitive Development: This involves the skills your little one needs to solve problems and process new information. It also includes early literacy skills as your child starts to explore books and environmental print.
-
Language Development: This includes the skills needed to express a child's needs and wants, such as pointing to what they want or saying the name of their favorite toy. It also involves how a child follows directions and understands words.
-
Motor Development: This area covers both gross motor skills like jumping, climbing, rolling, and sitting, as well as fine motor skills which involve controlling smaller muscle movements, such as those needed to turn a page in a book or color with a crayon.
-
Social Emotional Development: This domain includes how your child interacts with both adults and other children, as well as managing and regulating emotions.
-
Self Help Development: These are skills that help your little one become independent in daily routines, ranging from an infant being able to nurse to your toddler pulling his shirt over his head.
I provide guidance on these developmental milestones through play and daily routines. Do you have any specific questions about these areas of development?
