I’m Paul from thatcreativeceo. Love this question.

In tight spaces, I’m always chasing big, soft, directional light from very little gear. A few of my go-to moves:

  1. Put one small light as far to the side as I can for shape (3/4 or side key), not flat front-on
  2. Bounce it into a wall/ceiling/foam board to make the source much larger and softer
  3. Push the subject away from the background so it falls into shadow (instant cinematic depth)
  4. Use practicals (lamps, windows, screens) as motivators so the light feels “real,” not random
  5. Flag or block spill with anything dark (v-flats, curtains, cardboard) to keep contrast and mood

What kind of small space are you working with—bedroom, office, or something else?
