Hi, I’m Paul Rogers from thatcreativeceo. Love this question.

One of my go-to signature moves for cheap gear is the “fake book light” setup. You don’t need a Hollywood truck to get buttery-soft, cinematic light:

  1. Aim your key light into a white wall or foam board (that’s your bounce)
  2. Then pass that bounced light through diffusion (shower curtain, softbox, diffusion cloth)
  3. You get super soft, flattering light with gear you already own

I also obsess over:

  1. Getting the light close to the subject (closer = softer)
  2. Using walls, ceilings, and reflectors as free light shapers
  3. Killing mixed color temps so everything feels clean and intentional

What lighting gear do you currently have to play with?
