I lean on a few go‑to moves to add depth in tight spaces:

  1. Layered lighting: Instead of blasting the whole room, I use a soft key on the subject, then hair/back lights to create edge separation, like in my 3‑light “cinematic podcast” setup.
  2. Controlled spill: Skirted lanterns or flags keep light off the background so it falls off and feels deeper.
  3. Foreground + background: I try to add something close to lens (mic, plant, frame edge) and push the subject a bit off the wall.
  4. Depthy background: Practical lights, a lamp, or a small RGB accent in the back so there are light “planes” behind the subject.

What kind of content are you shooting in your small room—talking head, podcast, product, something else?
