Paul’s approach beats “traditional” low-light use of the FX3 because it actually leans into how the camera is designed to work, instead of fighting it.

Most people:

  1. Stay near base ISO 800 and just crank ISO upward slowly
  2. End up with mushy, noisy shadows and “Minecraft” footage

Paul’s method:

  1. Switches decisively to second base ISO 12,800 in low light
  2. Uses that dual base ISO design to get cleaner shadows and less noise than ISO 1600–6400
  3. Then dials in exposure with proper tools (zebras, lens, shutter, aperture) instead of ISO guesswork

End result: brighter, cleaner, more gradable footage and fewer ruined night shots.

What part of your FX3 setup are you struggling with most right now—ISO choice, exposure tools, or picture profile?
