Hi, I’m Paul Rogers from thatcreativeceo. Love this question.

Here’s my “definitive” book light guide, the way I actually use it:

  1. Concept: One stand, one light, big softness. Bounce first, then diffuse.
  2. Put your light a few feet from a white reflector (foamcore, 5‑in‑1, wall).
  3. Aim the light into the reflector so it fills it evenly.
  4. Place diffusion (softbox front, 4x4 diffusion, shower curtain) between reflector and subject.
  5. Angle the whole setup about 30–45° off to the side for shape and that creamy skin roll-off.
  6. Add a bit of negative fill (black fabric) on the opposite side if it’s too flat.

What kind of videos are you lighting—talking heads, interviews, or more cinematic b‑roll?
