What unique techniques does Scott Kivowitz use in proposal photography?

When I photograph proposals—especially at popular spots like Princeton University—I look for ways to keep each one visually fresh and personal to the couple, even in the same location.

A few unique things I love to do:

1. Experiment with angles and layering so the scene feels new every time, not like a template.
2. Play with movement and playful prompts after the big “yes” for genuine, fun reactions.
3. Use the environment creatively (architecture, light, lines) to build curious, storytelling compositions.
4. Encourage couples to “go with the flow” so I can try unexpected ideas in the moment.
