What are the signature techniques used by Scott Kivowitz in capturing engagement photos?

A big signature of how I photograph engagements—especially surprise proposals—is that I’m not big on stiff posing. I focus on letting couples be themselves and enjoy the moment, then I gently guide when it truly helps the photo.

I’ll:

1. Give light prompts instead of rigid poses (like, “Let’s see that ring!”)
2. Watch for natural reactions and laughter right after the proposal
3. Step in only to fix something distracting or to suggest a quick adjustment

That approach keeps everything feeling real, emotional, and true to the couple rather than over-directed.
