For bad weather, I like to keep things simple and rugged rather than chase ultra‑specialized gear. In my bad weather and overcast‑day videos, I generally recommend:

  1. Weather‑sealed camera and lens (most mid‑ to pro‑level bodies and lenses from major brands handle light rain and cold well)
  2. A good lens hood to reduce raindrops and flare
  3. Microfiber cloths and a small towel to keep glass and gear dry
  4. Rain cover or simple plastic sleeve for the camera
  5. Sturdy strap or holster system (I often use Spider Holster) so the camera is secure while I move
  6. Non‑slip tripod or monopod if you need stability in wind
  7. Water‑resistant bag with a rain cover for everything else

From there, it is about mindset: embracing the mood, reflections, and textures that bad weather creates, and being willing to get a little uncomfortable to make something different.

What kind of bad weather do you shoot in most—rain, snow, cold, or wind?
