What tools and gear does Hilary Erickson recommend for organizing a home?

Based on what I teach in The Organized Home, I actually don’t recommend tons of fancy gear. Your best “tool” is your brain and the systems you create. Bins and gadgets are secondary.

Some of my go‑tos:

1. Simple, cheap containers (often from Goodwill or dollar stores)
2. Drawer dividers or small boxes to create zones
3. Labels (tape + marker is fine)
4. A weekly plan (e.g., kitchen Monday, bathrooms Tuesday, etc.)
5. A filing system for papers, especially for taxes and important documents
