Hilary here! When I choose to work per diem, it really reflects a few key priorities in my life:

  1. Flexibility for my family and business: Per diem lets me work nursing shifts around my kids, my marriage, and running The Pregnancy Nurse and Pulling Curls, instead of the other way around.
  2. Staying clinically current: I still love bedside nursing. Working per diem keeps my labor and delivery skills fresh so my education stays practical and real.
  3. Energy management: I’m careful about burnout. Per diem work allows me to say yes to shifts that fit my bandwidth and no when I’m stretched too thin, so I can show up as my best self for patients and my online community.

Is there a particular aspect of per diem nursing you’re considering for yourself?
