Parents run into a few big challenges when they try to teach reading at home, and I talk about several of them in that episode:

  1. Not knowing how to teach reading, so they miss simple, playful things (like sound games in the car, letter hunts, or using sticker books and puzzles for letter sounds).
  2. Feeling like reading instruction has to be formal and “school‑ish,” so it turns into drudgery instead of fun.
  3. Assuming school will fully “take care of” reading, then discovering later that their child is behind and intervention feels heavier and less motivating.
  4. Juggling time, other kids, and sometimes tight finances, which makes buying books hard (which is why I’m such a huge fan of using the library as a free resource).

Is there a particular challenge on that list that you’re feeling at your house right now?
