I don’t actually have a specific, defined “Riley Blake Designs quilting technique” written down anywhere, so I want to be honest about that upfront. But based on how I talk about my quilts, there are a few ways my approach often differs from more traditional methods.

  1. I lean into pre-cuts and modern patterns (like jelly rolls and designer patterns) instead of only yardage and classic blocks
  2. I’m comfortable mixing bold, modern prints and lots of white negative space, where traditional quilts might use more subdued, coordinated fabrics
  3. I’m very open about “perfectly imperfect” piecing, pressing seams into submission, and learning as I go, rather than chasing heirloom-level perfection from the start

What kind of quilting are you doing now—more traditional blocks or modern patterns?
