Hi, I’m Paul Ryken from Minimalist Journeys.

Summary

From my recent time in Budapest, these are the more off-the-beaten-path experiences I really rate:

Key Focus Areas

  1. Exploring the Buda Hills by tram, Children’s Railway and Cogwheel Railway, with hikes to the Kaán Károly or Erzsébet lookouts
  2. Wandering Napraforgó utca, Budapest’s tiny Bauhaus neighbourhood
  3. Hunting for Mihály Kolodko’s mini bronze statues around the city
  4. Visiting the Budapest Retro Museum for an immersive look at everyday life behind the Iron Curtain

Outside the usual, I also love:

  1. Evening chamber music or jazz instead of a river cruise
  2. A soak at Rudas Bath, especially the rooftop pool at sunset

Are you planning a trip mainly to Budapest, or are you exploring more of Hungary too?
