I focus on turning reading into connection, not homework. A few “signature” things I always recommend:

  1. Start very early and read every day, even to babies, so books become part of the routine (bedtime is ideal)
  2. Make it cozy: snuggles, voices, acting out stories, letting your child “read” from memory
  3. Use books to talk about feelings, routines (potty, bedtime), and tough topics
  4. Ask simple questions: “What do you think happens next?” “Why is she sad?” to build curiosity and critical thinking
  5. Keep books visible and accessible at home, in the car, and even at doctor’s visits if you can
  6. Let kids choose books they love so reading feels fun and “cool,” not a chore

What’s your child’s age and language (English, Spanish or both) so I can suggest more specific ideas and book types?
