Hi, I’m Carolyn Scott-Hamilton from The Healthy Voyager. I talk about motivation a lot, and there are a few “signature” approaches I always come back to when it comes to fitness:

  1. Think lifestyle, not deadline: Treat movement as part of who you are, not a temporary plan. Like brushing your teeth, it’s just what you do.
  2. Set realistic, bite-size goals and clear milestones, then keep leveling up once you hit them.
  3. Build routines that fit your real life and your personality, not someone else’s plan (solo at home, outdoors, or in a group – all are valid).
  4. Track your progress and celebrate small wins with guilt-free rewards to keep momentum going.
  5. Switch it up when things get stale: new activities, new environments, or a new challenge to bring the joy back.
  6. Drop all-or-nothing thinking; progress over perfection is the rule. Learn from slip-ups, then move on.

What part of staying motivated is hardest for you right now: consistency, boredom, or hitting a plateau?
