Hi, I’m Carolyn Scott-Hamilton from The Healthy Voyager. Here are some of my favorite, practical ways to shrink your carbon footprint at home:
- Switch to energy-efficient basics: LED bulbs, efficient appliances, thick curtains, rugs, and ceiling fans to reduce heating and cooling needs
- Improve insulation: seal drafts, use double glazing if possible, and close curtains at night to keep heat in
- Choose greener materials: reclaimed or recycled wood, cork, or bamboo flooring instead of synthetic options
- Tap into renewables: consider solar (even a small system for water heating or device charging) and choose green energy tariffs where available
- Save water: low-flow fixtures, dual-flush toilets, greywater and rainwater collection for plants and lawns
- Cut waste: recycle, upcycle, buy second-hand, avoid single-use plastics, and reduce meat and dairy to lower overall emissions
