Hi, I’m Carolyn Scott-Hamilton from The Healthy Voyager.

For winter specifically, I focus on smart layering instead of bulk: pack thin, warm base layers, a light sweater or cardigan, and one good outer shell instead of multiple heavy coats. I also recommend wearing your heaviest items (coat, boots, chunky sweater) on the plane so they don’t eat up bag space.

I keep everything in one carry-on by:

  1. Sticking to one neutral color palette so every top works with every bottom
  2. Limiting shoes to 2–3 pairs total and wearing the bulkiest
  3. Choosing washable fabrics and planning to do laundry rather than packing “just in case” outfits

What kind of winter trip are you planning (city, ski, road trip)?
