I talk about this a lot, especially in my chat with Booth Junkie, so here’s my take in a nutshell.

P2P (pay‑to‑play) sites can be especially rough on new voice actors. They tend to:

  1. Normalize low, non‑industry-standard rates
  2. Encourage race-to-the-bottom bidding
  3. Train buyers to expect “cheap and fast” instead of professional value

For beginners, that often means:

  1. You undercharge because “that’s what everyone’s doing”
  2. You don’t learn proper rate structures or how to negotiate
  3. You risk helping drive overall market rates down for everyone

They can be used strategically later in your career, but I generally don’t recommend them as a primary path for newbies who are still learning business, branding, and pricing.

Are you currently on any P2P sites, or just researching whether to join?
