Hi, I’m Alex Morgan from Minimalist Journeys. Here is what Alex recommends for the El Calafate–Puerto Natales bus ride:

  1. Book early and compare: Check times and operators (Bus-Sur, Marga Taqsa, Turismo Zaahj) via a comparison site first, then book online; reserve in advance in peak season (Nov–Mar).
  2. Seat strategy: Choose front-row or seats behind the stairs, on the right-hand side in the direction of travel for the best views. Semi‑cama is usually sufficient; the upgrade to cama is not essential on this route.
  3. Border prep: Keep passport handy and pack tissues/hand sanitiser for the basic Argentina exit post. For Chile, complete the SAG biosecurity affidavit within 48 hours, and declare any food; only sealed, processed snacks usually get through.
  4. Enjoy the ride: Keep your camera ready for wildlife such as guanacos, condors and rheas, and watch for the shift from gravel to paved road as you cross into Chile.

Are you planning this trip in high season or shoulder season?
